Two New Choral Directors for Sheffield Cathedral
Sheffield Cathedral is pleased to announce the appointment of Jonathan Pinto and Caroline Slade as Choral Directors. Jonathan and Caroline will visit schools across the Diocese of Sheffield as part of the Schools Singing Programme.
Jonathan is excited to be a part of the music team at Sheffield Cathedral and the National Schools Singing Programme from September 2024. He has worked with a diverse range of children in sacred and secular performance settings in India and in the UK. Jonathan has sung and conducted youth choirs at local and international events of sacred choral music, as part of the International Federation of Pueri Cantores. He has also taught music in his own education programme for children in Mumbai, with an emphasis on choral singing, vocal technique and a holistic appreciation of music. Jonathan studied piano performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland and Sacred Music at the University of St Andrews. He continues to be interested in documenting pipe organs and organ restorations in India. Jonathan has been active in Roman Catholic and Anglican liturgies as a director, organist and cantor.
Caroline joined the Music Department at Sheffield Cathedral in 2024, and she was also a Choral Director for the Diocese of Leeds several years ago. She loves singing with people of all ages, from 2 to 102! Caroline has led choirs and singing projects for Opera North, Mahogany Opera, English Touring Opera, Bradford Cathedral, Waitrose and the NHS. She has performed at the BBC Proms and the World Choir Games, and was a guest performer in one of Sandi Toksvigās live shows in London. She has lectured at the universities of Reading and Leeds and, before joining Sheffield Cathedral, worked for Music in the Round. Caroline sings with Sonority, an upper-voice chamber choir in Sheffield and is married to Roland who is a vicar in Sheffield.
