One of the two Northern Irish dioceses eligible for NSSP funding has been awarded the first of it’s five year grants. Under the leadership of Bishop Noel Treanor and supported by Chief Operating Officer Gareth Hughes, the Diocese has ambitious plans to provide singing leadership to eight of its primary schools around the Cathedral in Belfast in the first year. Ultimately they plan to reach 23 primary and 13 post primary schools as the project evolves with regular music workshops for teachers and the provision of liturgical music scores and recordings. The Cathedral has an excellent music tradition and the funding will also enable the re-invigoration the boys choir Schola Cantorum, it’s associated training choirs and the formation of a girls choir in 2023.
