Very occasionally, you happen upon an uplifting tale that your jaded palate – cynical and suspicious of civic caprices – finds it difficult initially to digest. There’s always a catch, isn’t there? A corporate entity will be hovering overhead seeking a virtue-dip or there’ll be a hidden cultural agenda, flags at the ready. The benefits will slowly evaporate after the limelight shifts to the next photo-call. Somebody somewhere will be looking for a reasonable rate of return. Not with this one, though.
