Glasgow University Children’s Choir Debut Performance

The University of Glasgow Advanced Research Centre provided a stunning backdrop last week for a historic milestone: the first-ever performance of the University of Glasgow Children’s Choir.

Launched as a dynamic partnership between the University of Glasgow, the National Schools Singing Programme (NSSP), and Glasgow City Council, the choir represents a significant investment in the city’s young talent. The programme provides high-quality music education and choral training to primary school children across Glasgow, breaking down barriers to the arts and fostering a lifelong love of music.

Under the leadership of Choir Director David Wynn-Evans, the ensemble has moved from initial rehearsals to a confident public debut in record time. The performance showcased not only the vocal development of the students but also the discipline and community spirit that the NSSP model seeks to instil in every singer.

By connecting the resources of a world-class university with local primary schools, the project ensures that world-class music pedagogy is accessible to all, regardless of background. This launch marks the beginning of a long-term commitment to enriching Glasgow’s cultural landscape through its youngest voices.

“Seeing the choir perform for the first time at the Advanced Research Centre was a proud moment for everyone involved. This partnership is about more than just singing; it’s about giving children the confidence and skills to excel both on and off the stage.”
