Knighthood for NSSP patron, John Rutter
Congratulations to Sir John Rutter CBE who has today been awarded a knighthood for services to Music.
Sir John is patron of the NSSP and a lifelong champion of making choral music accessible to all. He is one of the most prolific composers of church music in recent times, world-renowned for his Christmas carols and other major works including ‘Gloria’,
‘Requiem’ and ‘Magnificat’.
He has guest conducted at concert halls, universities, churches, music festivals, and conferences globally. This has recently included Leeds Cathedral for the NSSP Conference in March and the Memorial Chapel of Glasgow University where one hundred children from the dioceses of Motherwell, Aberdeen and Paisley gathered in April.
On hearing the announcement, Sir John said: “Music has given me a lifetime of joy and fulfilment but I never dreamed that one day it would bring me the honour of a knighthood. I’m deeply grateful.”
Congratulations, Sir John!
