Coronation concert in Nottingham
On Friday 5 May, the Diocese of Nottingham kickstarted the Coronation Weekend with a concert in honour of the King at Nottingham Cathedral. Present at the concert were Bishop Patrick McKinney and civic dignitaries from across the diocese, including Nottinghamshire’s Lord Lieutenant, Sir John Peace.
Prior to the concert, Bishop Patrick McKinney echoed His Majesty the King’s hopes for the Coronation weekend: that the musical celebration be one that looks towards the future, whilst being rooted in tradition.
Conducted by Gregory Treloar, Diocesan Director of Music, the concert drew together Nottingham Cathedral Boys’ and Girls’ Choirs with Mansfield Children’s Choir, all with membership drawn from across the Diocese of Nottingham Schools Singing Programme. The young singers were joined by the award-winning Helix Ensemble, an orchestral group of musicians from across the East Midlands, and performed a programme of music fit for a king.
